You need a simple, one-page playsheet [FREE template download] to organize and track what needs to be done to win in your marketplace.  Not only would a playsheet drive the results you’re after at work, but it would also release you to be present at home with your family.

Here’s how it works:

  1. At the top of the template, there is area to insert your big “Moonshot” for 2015 – could be a revenue target, growth target, etc).
  2. The chart provides you an area to identify key strategic themes across your business (across function) that are necessary in order to support you delivering on the Moonshot.  In example, I’ve inserted the following themes: innovation, expansion, leadership development, etc.
  3. Each strategic priority supports the theme, and should identify a specific organizational target that needs to be met.
  4. Each of the performance targets fields that follow the strategic priority should be used to identify the specific cross-functional targets needed to meet that particular strategic priority.  Each target should be specific and have an executive team owner assigned.

The next steps are to build the functional level initiatives in a similar format for each executive to drive with their teams.  Finally, implementing an operating rhythm that provides a platform for the team to report, review and identify gaps in performance is vital.
